BACKGROUND
Based in the UK. Geo-metricks started in 1997. A small content house that brokered models through Viewpoint (the first online 3D model bank) and also Infographica. Geo-metricks’s first phase of activity was specializing in real-time models for VRML and real-time games. We ran independent multi-user VRML virtual worlds created using Silicon Graphic’s Cosmo Worlds and also Blaxxun tech (early Cybertown developers). This was back in the day when AlphaWorld, developed by ActiveWorlds Inc, was pretty much the only social online virtual world.
We created the original base avatar meshes for There.com and also created the avatars for Worlds.com. We created custom avatars for Aerosmith, Hanson and David Bowie to enable them to meet their fans in Worlds.com’s virtual spaces. We also created the original avatars used by redlight.com (now called Red light Social Center) for their adult virtual world.
We initially focused on low polygon game character/avatars for MU virtual world game environments but quickly branched out into every other form of low polygon models – vehicles, furniture, houses, plants, office spaces, landscapes, meeting rooms, etc …. pretty much everything you needed in the early 2000’s to produce a multi-user virtual world. In fact we were the first low polygon 3d content house. Over the years we have worked under NDAs and behind the scenes producing real-time models for Gov Military Simulations and GIS Mapping Applications.
RECENT AND CURRENT ACTIVITIES
Recent and current activities are covered by NDAs so there is little we can say right now but we are involved in AR and mixed realities – Magic Leap and Hololens, as well as Improbable’s SpatialOS and also social VR via Linden Lab’s Sansar Virtual Reality Platform.
We are focused on augmented, mixed and shared realities and have an abundance of legacy low polygon models which we fully intend to re-purpose, modify and upgrade for the latest mobile/games and virtual reality platforms e.g. Unity, Unreal, Lumberyard etc. Watch this space
